Okay, you know I was really really supporting Nicole Kidman to win the Oscar for "The Hours", but I was always torn because I equally adore Julianne Moore. And I was also supporting Catherine Zeta-Jones to take the award for Supporting Actress even though I'd hate for Julianne to walk away empty handed. The thing is, Julianne isn't the kind of actress that craves the recognition, and that's part of why I love her so. She's an actress, not a celebrity. And that's HUGE to me. Part of her appeal. So it was easy to support the other ladies, because they seem to need the validation. And that's okay too.
But then all this Nicole/Jude Law talk started, and as much as I don't think the public has any right to a celebrity's private life, that just really limits Nicole's appeal to me. I had the impression of her as an amazingly resilient woman who put her children and family first, which I think is commendable when living under the klieg lights of Hollywood. Outside of Hollywood? I'm not going to pat a person on the back for doing the right thing. But to me, celebs are socially handicapped - that's another blog though I guess. Anyway, I was trying to believe it all was fiction and then I came upon this tidbit about Jennifer and Brad (who has somehow broken me down to the point of acting like a giddy!schoolgirl over him - and he's not my type at all! Too clean cut, too pretty boy, but... he saves lives!) . "She's worrying herself sick and given recent events you can't blame her. Nicole is irresistible to her leading men. Jude seemed to become besotted and so did Ewan McGregor when they filmed Moulin Rouge together. Jennifer is very wary about Nicole. A lot of women in Hollywood are. Nicole is quite simply a man's woman. Men simply adore her." Now, obviously this suggests that the problem is the men, and not Nicole, but two to tango, right? *sigh* I feel like Jerry Falwell.
And as far as Catherine goes, well, this whole Hello! magazine debacle has been interesting to say the least, but now I read this and this. For one, her work in the film stands on its own. She doesn't need to be greasing wheels! That's appalling to me, and yes, I understand that campaigning is a part of the awards, but I think that's ridiculous. And for two, don't blame your husband because you came off looking like ass. He didn't feed you words to say. He didn't tell you to announce to the courtroom and the world that the million dollar fee was chump change to you - you did that. YOU DID. Suck it up. Why can't people take responsibility for the things they do? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
So my point? Couple that stuff with the wonderfulness that is Julianne, and I'm firmly supporting her to walk away with both awards come Oscar night.
And I've blogged WAY too much for today, and I should stop.
